Old Fashioned Sponge Candy
The one with the baking soda. Crack it with a hammer.
Ingredients
1 cu. sugar
1 cu. dark Karo
1 T baking soda
Directions
Spray 9x9" baking pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
In a large sauce pan (at least 3 quarts) combine sugar and Karo. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
Now insert a candy thermometer and cook to 300 degrees, stirring.
Remove from the heat. Sprinkle with the baking soda and stir very quickly, making sure it is evenly combined. The mixture will bubble and expand. Quickly pour into prepared pan. Do not spread, as the mixture will spread itself. Cool for 3-4 hours.
