Toasty Cheese Bake
This was a great Sage family favorite!!! One of a hundred ways to stretch a pound of ground beef.
Ingredients
8 slices white bread, toasted and buttered on both sides
1 lb. lean ground meat
1 sm. chopped onion
1 stalk chopped celery
1 T prepared mustard
½ t. salt
1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
1 egg, slightly beaten
¾ cu. milk
½ t. salt
⅛ t. pepper
⅛ t. dry mustard
Directions
Heat oven to 350F.
Cook and stir meat, onion, celery, mustard and ½ t.salt until meat is brown and onion is tender.
Place bread in bottom of baking pan. Top bread with meat mixture. Cover meat mixture with shredded cheese. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over cheese layer. Bake, uncovered, 30-35 minutes. Makes 4-6 servings.
