Beef Paprika
This recipe is great to do either on top of range or in the Crock Pot. Excellent for serving to guests because it can all be done ahead of time. Just make Egg Noodles, thicken sauce, and serve with a salad.
Ingredients
¼ cu. shortening
2 lb. beef chuck or beef round, cut into 1" cubes
1 cu. sliced onion
1 garlic clove, minced
¾ cu. catsup
2 T Worcestershire sauce
1 T brown sugar
2 t. salt
2 t. Paprika
½ t. dry mustard
Dash Red Pepper
1-½ cu. water
1 T corn starch in water (for thickening sauce)
Directions
Melt shortening in large skillet or dutch oven. Add meat, onion, and garlic. Cook and stir until meat is brown and onion is tender. Stir in catsup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, paprika, mustard, Red Pepper and ½ cu. water. (At this point, mixture can be put in Crock Pot for about 6-8 hours.) If not using crock pot, cover mixture and simmer on range top for 2 to 2-½ hours.
Blend Corn starch and water. Gradually stir into meat mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Serve over egg noodles. Serves 6 to 8.
