Typical Sweet Dough

This recipe for Sweet Dough is used for Cinnamon Buns, Hungarian Coffee Cake, Donuts, Parker House or Clover Leaf Rolls, etc., etc.

Ingredients

1 pkg. Yeast
1 cu. Milk
¼ cu. sugar
1 t. salt
1 egg, well beaten
3-½ cu. Flour
¼ cu. shortening (melted and cooled)

Directions

Dissolve Yeast in ¼ cu. warm water (110-120F). Scald milk and melt margarine. Let cool (or you will kill the action of the Yeast)!

Combine yeast, water, milk, margarine, sugar, salt, and egg. Mix well. Gradually add flour. Knead for about 10 minutes, until dough is no longer sticky. Place in oiled bowl. Turn dough to grease top. Let rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour.

Sweet dough is now ready to be used. Follow directions for the recipe you are using. Will make one Hungarian Coffee Cake, l dozen Cinnamon Buns, about 1 ½ dozen donuts, or 2 doz. dinner rolls.
